Artist Statement
My name is Traci Leigh Cook. I am a 29 year-old graphite portrait artist and illustrator.
Although I have never received a formal art education, I prefer not to use the term "self-taught" loosely. Since childhood, I was blessed with an ability to "draw what I see," with quite a bit of detail, however without the example of fellow artists, I would lack in certain skills that I utilize in my work.
Although I do use other mediums, such as ink, oil-based paint, and colored pencil, my favorite medium to use is graphite. I love the simplicity, yet the ability to create fine detail with graphite.
I intend to capture the uniqueness in each subject I draw and to re-create each person, scene, or object into a piece that is as photo-like as possible, yet still artistic.
